The Story Behind Lake Country Lunkers
Officially established in 2022, created and inspired by years of bass fishing.
Lake Country Lunkers was established December 2022 in my hometown of Sulphur Springs, Texas; which is less than an hours drive from legendary Lake Fork and countless other big bass factories. Being an avid fisherman for 10+ years, (obsessed, as my friends, family would say) I found it incredibly difficult to find and buy jigs with detailed skirt patterns, natural skirt movement, or the durability I wanted. So in 2021, I started making my own! From that point on, I was hooked. Figuratively, and literally… thousands of times by now.
Due to my passion for bass fishing, modifying & creating tackle, and trying to catch the biggest bass in any ditch/pond/creek/lake/river, I became a “tackle tinkerer”. I wouldn’t fish a jig without modifying it in some way that would give me that “edge” above other fisherman, and even though I was stuck to walking the bank and limited in the areas I could fish at the time, I was determined to outfish the people passing by in their $60,000 bass rigs. I bought a fly tying vise, some thread & a bobbin, skirting materials, and weed guards; all without any clue of what to do with it. All I knew was how to catch fish.
Following countless hours of testing various jig and fly tying methods for durability, studying seasonal bass/bass forage tendencies and their seasonal color changes, lure testing and then re-testing in various water clarities and temperatures, I have the utmost confidence in my lures. This level of confidence comes from the innumerable failures and frustrations that I experienced, all of which taught me something during this pursuit of perfection. And I still continue to learn each time I make a lure and any moment I’m on the water.
If you’re as detail oriented as I am when it comes to bass fishing, you want to put all of the odds in your favor while trying to catch the fish that others can’t.
Advantages and Defining Qualities
The most detailed and realistic color patterns, made with several specific materials each creating different action and appearance in the water
Novel and unique designs that provide a different presentation to highly conditioned bass
Wire-tied skirts to improve the “natural flow” of the skirt, and overall action of lures by not inhibiting the trailer
Unmatched durability when compared to other lure makers using rubber/silicone, or thread-tying to secure skirts
Stout, needle-sharp Mustad and Gamakatsu hooks
Stiff weed guards to prevent snagging on cover, but easily collapse when a fish bites
Made with versatile head styles to cover all levels of the water column and desired application
